Mental Health & Well-Being

Conflict, displacement, violence, and prolonged instability can leave deep psychological, emotional, and social impacts on individuals and communities, making accessible and effective mental health care an essential part of recovery and rebuilding. The loss of loved ones, homes, livelihoods, security, and social networks can significantly affect well-being and resilience, while women may face additional challenges such as gender-based violence, social stigma, discrimination, economic insecurity, and limited access to support services. At Women for Change International, we believe that healing must be holistic, addressing individual mental health needs while also recognizing the social, cultural, and structural factors that influence well-being. Our programs prioritize culturally appropriate approaches that respect local traditions, experiences, and knowledge while incorporating evidence-based practices to support recovery and strengthen long-term resilience. Through peer support groups, the training of local mental health workers, collaboration with community leaders, and the creation of safe and inclusive spaces, we encourage open conversation, mutual support, and stronger community connections. We also advocate for mental health and psychosocial support to be integrated into broader public health and social policies so that quality services are recognized as essential and made accessible to all people, regardless of gender, age, background, or circumstances. Our goal is not only to respond to immediate mental health needs but to help individuals and communities affected by conflict regain a sense of dignity, connection, hope, and strength as they rebuild their lives and their futures.
